Maura Lake is the host of She's So Funny, the comedy contest, which is searching for San Francisco's next Ellen, Roseanne, Whoopi or Wanda. Maura is officially one of the funniest women comedians in the country She is featured in She's So Funny (Andrews McMeel Publishing, Spring), the first book to collect the best jokes from fifty years of women standup comedians.
The second round of the contest will be held Saturday, May 22, at the Hyena Playhouse (2390 Mission St. #304, at Mission and 20th) San Francisco Women comedian finalists will be determined by audience response and the vote of celebrity judges. Proceeds from the event are to be tithed to Step-Up
Women’s Network, a charitable organization that raises funds for Peace for Kids.
Finalists will be awarded a cash prize, be invited to a Los Angeles performance, and qualify for the finals in late August) Contestants also will be featured in a documentary taped during the contest. March’s round played to over 150 enthusiastic people and the winner, Sharman Bacigalupi took home $200 in prize money. Performance art guru Michael Vavricek will be emceeing the event.
